We were so excited to play a part in this wonderful, charitable organization! The SYAOR Charitable Foundation provides clothes and school supplies for hundreds of school-aged children in Yuba, Colusa, and Sutter Counties.
Each year, SYAOR hosts an event called “Clothes for Kids”. The organization co-chairs, Holly Shackleford and Deneen Torres collect donations from businesses and individuals alike to to provide the children with clothes and school supplies to start the school year off on the right foot. Children are referred by area school teachers and other members of the community. When the shopping day comes around, the children and their parents meet Holly, Deneen, and numerous volunteers at the Yuba City Kohl’s department store.
The kids are paired up with a volunteering adult to escort them inside the store to select clothes and shoes while their parents wait for them outside. The kids are always so happy to be able to pick out their own outfits!
In addition, Holly and her crew fill brand new backpacks with school supplies and other goodies as a surprise for the kids after they finish shopping. This year was the biggest year yet. Clothes for Kids provided for over 350 kids!
The more the word gets out, the bigger it gets. This year they even had barbers and hairstylists show up to give free haircuts to kids in the parking lot outside the store.
Our very own Amber and Angie had the pleasure of volunteering for the shopping day this year. They were paired up with great kids and both say it is truly the best feeling to be part of bringing joy to children and knowing they are starting off the school year with brand new outfits, shoes, backpacks and more importantly, confidence.
Thanks to Holly and Deneen’s efforts, this wonderful charitable foundation is a 100% tax deductible 501c3 status organization. If you’d like to get involved, visit Facebook or send your donation to 1558 Starr Dr, Yuba City, CA 95993.
Volunteers are greatly appreciated! Reach out to the SYAOR foundation next August before the start of school to get involved.
